Dragoncon 2011 Costume Recap

First up, Supergirl.
My plan was to wear Supergirl all Thursday night; I ended up wearing it for about 20 minutes because I wanted to put on Donna.

So now that Supergirl was out of the way (LOL) I wore Donna the rest of the night – there were so many Doctor Who people around and with K9 out, it was really fun.

Friday morning I got to wear Marie Antoinette, and Chase and I did a photoshoot over at Hardy Ivy:

After that put on the new Ms Marvel. Really loved how this turned out and easy to wear.

Rewore Black Widow w/new wig for Avengers.

Then Lady Blackhawk. This was really fun to wear, too, but my feet were already killing me after wearing those same boots for 2 hours already. I also skipped my gloves because I was still really hot from the Avengers shoot, which now I regret because it doesn’t look complete without them.

Wore Emma Frost that night. LOVE this costume. It’s actually pretty comfortable and I like how it looks. My eye for the hook and eye decided to pop off on one side as soon as I got downstairs, though – luckily I almost always have extra safety pins hidden so I was able to pin it back on, but that’s something I need to go back and fix.

Sat morning was Donna again, this time with my hair properly “done” (rolled the night before.) Wore this a good part of the day, from around 9am to 2pm.

I really love this costume, can’t wait to wear it again. (I also have a few pieces I’ve been slowly collecting for her Silence in the Library oufit, so I guess I’ll do that one eventually, too.)

After a quick cool down I put on Hippolyta. We went outside to take a few pics…

I didn’t get to wear it long, though, because I melted out of it: I use toupee tape to hold the crown on and it was popping off, and the velcro holding my chestpiece on had also popped off the inside!

Saturday night I wore Valkyrie: another one I didn’t get to wear long.

I was happy with everything except the wig – I had braided it on a wighead and it ended up being slightly too small, so I had to stretch it to get it on, and it kinda messed up. It’s a simple fix of unbraiding it and braiding it while I have it on my head instead. I also miiight dye the cape darker – to look more like my reference.
I was just exhausted by this point and having to walk around with that belt and the giant sword and wig hair in my way was driving me crazy (earlier in the day we had done a triathlon with K9 and I don’t think Chase or I ever recovered.) so I changed out it before I really wanted to.

I wore the new Ms Marvel the rest of the night.

Sunday morning I wore Enchantress – I only have one pic so far, as Chase is finishing them up.

(New crown, updated bodice, shorter skirt.)

After Enchantress I went to put on Rogue so we could walk around the dealer’s rooms again, but as I was pulling the shoes on, the shoe part broke away from the heel part. The fabric kept them from completely falling apart, but it was uncomfortable to walk in, especially on my already sore feet. So we just took some pics and it’s going on the “Repair for GMX” list.

I skipped wearing black Ms Marvel. Was going to wear it for Stan Lee but was too lazy to go put it on.

And finally my last costume for the weekend was my secret TARDIS version of Marie Antoinette.

All of the TARDIS pieces are held on with magnets, so they’re totally removable without hurting the dress. My necklace broke as I went to put it on – it’s an easy fix, but didn’t have time to fix it in the room so went without it. Next time I want to wear the hat a little higher, and I’d love to make different skirt panels for the different interiors. (I picked 11’s because of the warm orange-y tones, thought it would look good with the dress — I regretted it once I started it because it was difficult!)
I also want to make new windows that aren’t so wrinkly looking.

All that aside, this was incredibly fun to wear and the reception made my weekend.

Anyway, I’ve got my costume site nearly updated; I’ve just got to write my Marie Antoinette stuff but everything else is up.
